  • Why is there partitive in “Huonetta ei ole siivottu”?

    • It’s the object of the sentence. The object of a negative sentence gets inflected in the partitive case. The word order probably threw you off! This is a passive sentence, so the word order is different from what you’re probably used to.

      • OK, I get it now. I suspected that it is passive but I wasn’t sure why it is “siivottu” and not “siivottiin”. But that’s because of negation. “Siivottu” is past passive participle but also negation of past passive indicative.
