Le plus souvent, les phrases incluent le sujet qui doit effectuer l’action spécifiée. Ce sujet apparaîtra au génitif. Le sujet peut être une personne ou un groupe de personnes (une équipe ou une organisation).

2. Phrases de nécessité sans sujet
Les phrases suivantes sont des exemples où il n’y a pas de sujet explicite. Cependant, elles ont très souvent un sujet implicite qui ressort clairement du contexte. J’ai indiqué les sujets implicites possibles entre parenthèses dans les traductions.

3. Phrases de nécessité avec un objet
Il est assez courant d’avoir des phrases de nécessité qui n’ont pas de sujet mais qui ont un objet. Cet objet suivra les règles d’objet habituelles pour les phrases täytyy : elles apparaîtront dans leur forme de base ou au partitif, mais n’auront jamais la terminaison du génitif -n.
Cela a du sens parce que le cas génitif est réservé à l’auteur d’une phrase de nécessité. Par exemple, la phrase [Antin täytyy tappaa Maija] (« Antti doit tuer Maija ») a pour sujet Antti. En revanche, dans la phrase [Antti täytyy tappaa] (« Antti doit être tué »), Antti est l’objet et apparaît donc sous sa forme de base.

Petite remarque : même les Finlandais commettent des erreurs de temps en temps : les sujets et les objets peuvent être confondus, amenant ainsi le locuteur à utiliser accidentellement le génitif ou le nominatif. Dans le tableau suivant, vous pouvez trouver quelques exemples où le même mot est utilisé à la fois comme sujet (S) et comme objet (O). Notez comment cela influence le cas auquel il est décliné.

4. Phrases de nécessité avec un autre élément
On peut aussi ajouter un autre élément à ces phrases plutôt qu’un sujet au génitif.
C’est particulièrement courant lorsque vous voulez dire que quelqu’un doit avoir quelque chose. Par exemple, “Vous devez avoir un mot de passe” sera traduit en finnois par “Sinulla täytyy olla salasana“. C’est nécessaire parce qu’en finnois on exprime la possession avec la construction de la phrase « minulla on ».
